Hi there! I'm Emily, and I am a firm believer that solid design is the best way to solve complicated problems.
When I say "design," I'm not talking about visual design, although that's important and it's a big part of my background. Rather, I'm referring to a multifaceted approach to problem solving that involves research, empathy, ideation, and rapid testing and iteration.
You may hear people refer to experience design, design thinking, Lean UX, user experience or customer experience. Although they all have differences, the underlying principles behind those approaches to design share a few critical similarities: get to know your customers, understand the world through their eyes, and then make sure you're solving problems that matter to them, in the simplest possible way.
I have spent the last several years of my professional career studying the best approaches to problem-solving through design, and have come up with a repeatable design process that works for pretty much any situation. It's flexible, and you can use pieces of it or all of it, depending on what your team needs and what resources you have available. I talk about this process at conferences, teach people how to apply it to their work, and would be happy to provide hands-on consulting or lead a workshop for you or your team.
So please check out my site and contact me if you'd like to talk about how I can help!
