Background

  • This client was looking for a vision for their “One Discount Tire” initiative - a way to bring CX and optimized supply chain together

  • They had market / data research. (Insights from market and data research typically predict behavior and result in incremental or continuous improvement.)

  • I did some design research to help understand human needs. (Insights from design research typically result in innovation.)

Approach

  • I conducted background research and pre-created materials for the workshop. Because the workshop was only going to be half a day, we needed the participants to do pre-work and get familiar with the personas and trends so we could hit the ground running on workshop day.

I also pre-created workshop kits containing supplies and templates for journey maps, magazine covers, tweets, storytelling, and a transformation matrix.

Along with a colleague, I used the above materials to conduct a half-day DT workshop with a goal of getting the team to think beyond immediate and tactical. The future is already here; how can we get ahead of it and really be forward thinking?

  • 80 participants; 10 tables of 8. 2 facilitators.

    • We provided an intro to design thinking so participants understood the goal for the day.

    • We walked the group through a series of DT exercises that helped them form a clearer vision for their future.
